Rass History

early life

Rass's father was a drunk, sour and bitter shifter who left his wife and son to go fight and die in the last war. Hell, maybe he didn't die ... but to Rass he was as good as dead.

His mother, well, she hung on for a while. Tough by nature but worn down by years of abuse and toil, her body could not keep pace with her spirit. A bright eye, quick wit and sharp mind were her hallmarks. Nearly always positive and cheerful, she did her best with Rass's help to keep the family farm running. What started as a cold in winter turned to a wracking cough which persisted through spring. With Lharvion high in the summer sky, she breathed her life and Rass left the home he'd ever known to see the world ... sixteen years exactly from the day of his birth.

Their house had been on the ass-end of west Khorvaire, right on a spit of the Byshek mountains near what folks today call the Eldeen Reaches, Droam, Shadowmarches and Demon Wastes. To Rass, it was home and the western Bysheks ... that was it. He didn't even know what a country was until he had traveled; the arbitrary concepts of lines on a map were something his mind just couldn't grasp.

Setting out, Rass decided to head north towards the Eldeen forests. He supposedly had family there, though he'd never met them but thought they might be able to get him a job. It wasn't much, but it was a goal. He wasn't tied strongly to it, which was good because as he reached the edge of the northern slopes he found a small scouting party exploring the area. They were House Tharashk employed and had the spare coin to hire on an extra hand who knew at least the local flora and fauna.

Rass enjoyed his time with them, but ultimately wished to seek out his family. The caravan was headed towards Blood Crescent next, but Rass declined to accompany them and instead plodded north into the forest.
