Equipment level 11

Githyanki Githcraft cold iron "Silver" Ghost Touch Ethereal Reaver +1 Longsword

  • runes scribed on the side that even Sul can't read or find remotely familiar to anything else (and considering Sul knows over a dozen languages, this is daunting)
  • obtained from the Cabinet of Faces spy, which was likely stolen from the Githyanki in the first place

Skin of Ectoplasmic Armor Pitspawned +1 Ghost Touch Shadow ethereal reaver

  • 1 dmg to anyone that hits me
  • obtained from the Cabinet of Faces spy, likely of more infernal origin as well as the armor feels mildly evil (empathic thing, no actual aura)

Hey guys, any suggestion for gear? I'm really kind of at a loss. This whole "buy whatever you want" thing has me stumped, since I've never had such open access to equipment before. Keep in mind I don't have much of a carrying capacity either. I was trying to adhere to the whole ghostly theme, hence the ectoplasmic armor. Not sure if anything else fits in there.

background stories for how I got my equipment

(this started off as an explanation for how I got some of my equipment, and... well... it just sort of happened)

Veil of Allure

- had it since level 1 (see SulFactionStuff), but its powers didn't become active until after I died

necklace of charisma (around level... 5?)

Background: Sul’s daughter was very young when he “died”, and his body was never found. His family searched for some time, but knowing the business he was involved in eventually gave up and presumed him dead. They held an empty casket funeral. Inside, his daughter left her necklace and a letter.

History: At some point after regaining some of his sanity, he goes back in search of familiar ground, but so much has changed in the world (20-30 years). Even the neighbourhood he lived and worked in had been completed replaced by industrial complexes. He drifted through a graveyard, as ghosts are wont to do, and by sheer chance (maybe) came upon his own grave. Out of a morbid curiosity, he drifts underground to see what is inside, only to find an empty coffin with some crumbled flowers, a silver necklace, and an old yellowed letter.

Dear daddy, mommy says you’re not coming back anymore, but I don’t believe her. You promised that you’d come back, that you would take us away to a better place and I would be your little princess and we could all live happily ever after. Mommy says we have to leave and find a safer place to live in the whitelands. I’m going to leave you my favourite necklace that you gave me for my birthday. Please come and find us daddy, then you can give me my necklace back and we’ll all be happy again. I miss you.

Love

Sala

“Sala”? That was his daughter’s name, but she had barely learned to recite the alphabet, much less write a letter. But the necklace... how much time has passed? and where are the “whitelands”. Lost in confusion, Sul drifts back out of the graveyard, unaware that he is still clutching the necklace in his hands.

sword and armor (around level 9)

When confronting the second spy from the Cabinet of Faces (while still in Vic’s body), the spy stops running and demands that he face him.

“Show your face demon. Show me your true form.”

Stunned, Sul is unsure how to react. Can the spy can see him for what he is?

“Still hiding are you? Then perhaps this will make things easier for you.”

The spy the throws a small coin near Vic’s feet, which explodes in a bright flash of magical energy that feels as though it were tearing his body apart. When the light subsides, Sul realizes that he has been separated from Vic’s body. Vic is staggered, as if waking from a bad dream. Then in the next moment, the spy draws his sword and attacks Sul.

Sul is still in disbelief that this man can even see him, but his attention turns to more immediate matters as the sword slices into his form and he feels pain for the first time in decades. Real pain. HIS pain. This man could see him, this man could hurt him; who was he? Sul tried to hit back, but his armor seemed to resist even his ghostly touch, pulsing with the same magic that thrust him out of Vic. Desperately trying to get away, Sul flies up into the air beyond reach.

“You think that will help demon? Aren’t you forgetting something?” and with that, the spy made a charge towards Vic.

While still confused, Vic was far from defenseless and rolled out of the way, pulling the spy into a grapple and trying to wrest the sword from his grip. Vic was clearly outmatched however, and wouldn’t last long. Sul had to do something, but what? Suddenly, the dark companion returned and leapt onto the spy’s back. The grappling pair didn’t even seem to notice, but in that moment Sul could sense the spy’s thoughts, his intents, his fight. The spy too felt it too, but it was too late. In that moment of distraction, Sul reached out with his mind and took hold of those strands of concentration and pulled as hard as he could. Yelping in mental anguish, the spy lost hold and Vic sliced his throat with his own sword.

The battle was over, but not without leaving Sul with a strange new feeling of mortality. The body of the spy shimmered, then shifted back to its true form; still a changeling, but with a different face. The armor shimmered as well, and shrank into a strange little blob. Sul examined the body, and while his touch passed through most of it, he found he was able to touch the sword and the armor. Not only was this spy able to see him, but he was equipped with things that could hurt him. Who was he dealing with that would send hunters after him? In any event, he now had some of their tools that he could use against them.

There was now also the matter of Vic, looking at him with wonder and a strange smirk on his face.

“You were there all those years ago too weren’t you? when I tried to stop that robber?

“yes...”

“...and all this time, those dreams, running around on the rooftops trying to bring justice back to the night? I think somehow... somehow, I always knew that they weren’t dreams were they?

“no...”

“So what happens now?”
